Although I think the movie is not entirely fair towards focus groups, I do appreciate the danger of running a novel/radical idea by a consensus seeking group of people, that will judge the product by their current frame of reference. As for theatre, there I think especially the consensus seeking but it dangerous, and will leave you with a half-baked compromise instead of exciting theatre. Nice to see there's a link between product development and stage play writing.

1) reminds me of the new play development meetings I was a part of when I directed. A playwright would have the play read aloud, and then a group of so-called theatre artists would critique it. Over and over, I saw anything raw, exciting, challenging or disturbing talked out of the script. Result? Bloodless theatre. Who wants that??? 2) It takes a very particular form of leadership to coax groups toward innovation. There are ways to get all voices heard, and to get ideas explored rather than squashed. LOVE this video. Thanks for sharing.
